Two Paddocks, Pinot Noir Estate
Pinot Noir Estate, Central Otago, New Zealand, 2018 (750 ml)
If you’re a fan of the original Jurassic Park movies, you are going to be blown away by movie star Sam Neill’s current project. Since 1993, Sam Neill has been building a frill-less biodiverse vineyard in the beautiful region of Central Otago, New Zealand and creating some truly world-renowned wines. While his operation isn’t certified as a biodynamic vineyard, he has taken his organic certification to new heights by incorporating composts, polyculture farming, and the use of farm animals to increase the health of the land in the same way as a certified biodynamic farm would. If you’re looking to kill some time, his Two Paddock videos, featuring incredible vistas, cute animals, and a very wacky sense of humor can entertain for hours.
Claiming to have the most southern vineyard, these cool climate wines are perfectly balanced and full of finesse! The Estate Pinot Noir is a perfect expression of New Zealand, with the bright acidity of a Burgundian Pinot, and the fruit and herbaceous complexity of Oregon. Bramble, spice and wild herb aromatics sit gently on the nose, then lead to an elegant finely driven mouthfeel, showing poise, freshness and a lingering persistent finish.
